EE.UU. - Fishmeal Prices Expected to Fall in 2003

miércoles 4 de diciembre de 2002

SEAFOOD.COM by John Sackton, Dec 4, 2002- The deputy fishing minister of Peru has stated that he expects fishmeal prices to decline in 2003 somewhat from their levels this year. Average prices in 2002 have been between $550 and $600 per ton (delivered China), and the deputy minister, Leoncio Alvarez, suggested that in 2003, the price might be closer to $500 per ton.

In 2003 Peru expects fishmeal production of about 2 million tons, based on landings of about 7 million tons. A mild el Nino could impact these numbers, but the current El Nino is not expected to be very significant. The Deputy Minister made these remarks during a speaking engagement at the recent Expopesca show in Chile.
